Muscat: A catering company was shut down after it was found selling expired food to popular hotels and shopping malls in Oman, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) reported.
The company has allegedly been adulterating the expiry date of food which was unfit for human consumption for months before it was caught.
Following a surprise inspection at the company’s storage in Bousher, PACP officials found a “big number” of expatriates re-labeling more than 4,000 expired products, including rotten fish, meat, oil and cheese.
They also found a device which was used to remove the old dates and replace them with new fake ones at an office inside the company’s headquarters.
PACP said the company used to deliver ready-made meals to top-notch hotels and malls in the Sultanate.
The primary court issued a jail term of six months and a fine of OMR20,000 on the companyboss and destroyed its expired products.
